Lutz Pankow, born in Lisbon, Portugal in 1968, grew up in South America before settling in Hamburg, Germany.
He studied engineering and design at the Saarbrücken Academy of Fine Arts, graduating in 1995. He was then awarded a scholarship to the DesignLabor Bremerhaven, during which time he worked on various projects with renowned designers such as François Burkhardt, Alberto Meda and Roger Tallon. Since 1996, Pankow has worked as a freelance designer, offering industrial, interior and exhibition design services, and has won several international design awards. He began teaching design at HBK Saar in 1996 and, in 2005, also began teaching at the Hamburg School of Fine Arts. His design studio has been based in Hamburg since 2006.
Inspired by his many collaborations along the way, Lutz Pankow draws his ideas from a diversity of cultures and techniques. His work is characterized by a meticulous attention to ergonomics and durability, integrating both aesthetic and functional elements. Notable achievements include his collaboration with Oluce in 2009, resulting in the creation of the "Lutz" table lamp. More recently, he has created a collection of luminaires for the French house DCW.
His innovative approach and commitment to responsible design have earned him international recognition and several prestigious design awards.
